Who Shapes Ballet? Rethinking Gender, Power and Training Pipelines

Who Shapes Ballet? Rethinking Gender, Power and Training Pipelines

Ballet studios are full of cisgender girls and women, yet the majority of artistic directors and choreographers are cisgender men. This session explores why.

In this ‘One Dance UK In Conversation’ webinar, we speak to dance teacher, choreographer, adjudicator and researcher Anna Morgan.

Drawing on new research, it examines how disproportionate opportunities, binary gender expectations, and studio culture shape who gets to lead. The session also highlights practical ways teachers and institutions can embed equity into training and open pathways to leadership for women, trans and non-binary dancers.
