Today London Contemporary Dance School is proud to announce a new enterprise with Studio Wayne McGregor, the world-class creative arts space and studios located at Here East, a cutting-edge media complex in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London. This will see LCDS postgraduate students on the 2023/24 MA Dance: Performance course locate their studies in an environment synonymous with high quality dance practice – distinctively bridging them into a professional working environment.

A world leader in dance and arts education, London Contemporary Dance School has seen significant development this past year, specifically in its postgraduate provision. This upcoming academic year, the school will be offering a total of 4 MA courses, with two completely new programmes – MA Dance: Performance and the highly anticipated MA Dance: Communities, Participation, Activism – added to the established MA Expanded Dance Practice and the pioneering MA Screendance.

The radically trailblazing and internationally renowned choreographer Wayne McGregor CBE has been a Patron of the Place and London Contemporary Dance School since 2011. Here East is a dedicated campus for innovators, disruptors, and visionaries designed to push boundaries and operate as a catalyst for change. Studio Wayne McGregor offers dance studios of a world-class standard and interior architectural relevance, designed by architects Wenoti, with the Capital build supported by cultural consultant for the creative industries and LCDS alumna Jen MacLachlan.

From September 2023, students on the MA Dance: Performance course will be in residence on the campus, and students from the other MAs will also develop and present projects there, making it a space where postgraduate students meet and collaborate in innovative ways, with each other and with established international artists and companies.

Commenting on the relationship, Dr Efrosini Protopapa, Director of Postgraduate Courses and Research at LCDS, says: “We are delighted to be working closely with the Studio team at Studio Wayne McGregor to create a unique student experience that will enable access to a bespoke dance space, in this exciting moment of developing our postgraduate and research activity. LCDS MA students will also be able to build vital networks that will inspire and sustain successful careers by meeting other student bodies, artists and companies, and connecting to the cultural hub in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park as part of the East Bank development, which includes UAL’s London College of Fashion, UCL, Sadler’s Wells East, BBC and the V&A”.
