London celebrates the elegance of Indian Classical Dance at the Nehru Centre

In a captivating celebration of India’s timeless artistic heritage, the Nehru Centre in London, under the esteemed banner of the High Commission of India in the United Kingdom, hosted an exquisite evening dedicated to three of India’s most revered classical dance traditions — Sattriya, Odissi, and Kathak on 13th March, 2026.

The thoughtfully curated cultural soirée brought together three internationally acclaimed artists: Anannya Mahanta Jugnarain representing the graceful Sattriya tradition, Monidipa Seal presenting the lyrical beauty of Odissi, and Amrita Bandopadhyay showcasing the dynamic elegance of Kathak. Each artist presented a thematic solo choreography, reflecting the depth, spiritual essence, and narrative richness embedded within their respective dance forms.

The performances unfolded as a journey through India’s classical aesthetics, where rhythm, devotion, and storytelling merged seamlessly on stage. The audience was treated to an immersive experience as each dancer interpreted traditional motifs through refined technique and expressive artistry. The evening culminated in a remarkable trio finale, where the three maestros shared the stage in a harmonious confluence of styles — symbolizing the unity and diversity of India’s cultural landscape.

The prestigious gathering was graced by several distinguished guests including Warrant Officer Mr. Ashok Kumar Chauhan, Renowned Bharatnatyam Artist Smt. Anusha Subramanyan, Renowned Tablist Shri Rajkumar Mishra, Renowned Kathak Artist Smt. Sujata Banerjee, Deputy Director of Nehru Centre, London Shri Rakesh Kumar, along with other eminent members of the cultural and diplomatic community.

Originally from India and now based in the United Kingdom, Anannya Mahanta Jugnarain, Amrita Bandopadhyay, and Monidipa Seal collectively bring over two decades of artistic experience to the global stage. Each of them has earned numerous international recognitions for their contributions to Indian classical dance and continues to serve as cultural ambassadors, passionately promoting and preserving India’s rich artistic legacy across Europe. 

Through such thoughtfully curated performances, the artists reaffirm their commitment to nurturing cross-cultural dialogue and strengthening global appreciation for India’s classical traditions. Encouraged by the enthusiastic response from audiences and cultural connoisseurs alike, the trio expressed their intention to continue organizing more such prestigious cultural events under the banner of the High Commission of India in the United Kingdom, further enriching the international arts landscape.
