Karma Dance brings Diminished — a powerful double bill of dance theatre — to Leeds.

Karma Dance (Mental Health & Trauma CIC) bring their bold Indo-contemporary double bill Diminished to Leeds this October. A powerful evening exploring resilience, control, and the healing potential of movement.
Led by Artistic Director Zoobin Surty, the company continues to carve a distinctive path at the intersection of classical Indian dance, contemporary movement, and social impact. With Diminished, Zoobin and his collaborators invite audiences to witness dance as both storytelling and survival, a way to turn unspoken experiences into shared understanding.
“I wanted to give shape to experiences that are often hidden in silence — from the shadows of control and violence to the resilience that can emerge from them,” says Zoobin. “Dance allows us to confront these realities not just with words, but with the body’s truth.”
The programme also features Isolation with my iPhone, a deeply personal and poetic reflection on Deaf experience in a digital world, shaped by Zoobin’s own evolving relationship with sound, silence, and vibration. Together, the two works express Karma Dance’s commitment to using dance as a space for empathy, awareness, and transformation.
With a creative team spanning UK and Indian musicians, dancers, and collaborators, the project embodies Karma Dance’s belief in cross-cultural exchange and dance as a language of healing.
