Kandyan Dancers Co. celebrates BRISLA win for Dilini Seneviratne

Dilini Seneviratne, Creative Director of Kandyan Dancers Company, won a second BRISLA Award for outstanding contribution to classical dance in the UK.

The British Sri Lankan Association (BRISLA) hosted its 2025 Awards Ceremony at London’s prestigious Royal Over-Seas League, celebrating exceptional achievements within the British Sri Lankan community. The evening opened with a captivating traditional Kandyan dance performance by the Kandyan Dancers Company, setting the tone for a night of cultural pride and recognition.

Among this year’s distinguished recipients was Dilini Seneviratne, Creative Director of Kandyan Dancers Company, who received the BRISLA Award for Outstanding Contribution to Classical Dance. This marks her second BRISLA honour, following her first win in 2018, and recognises her remarkable dedication to preserving and promoting Sri Lankan classical dance in the UK. She was presented the award by Nimal Senadheera, Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the UK.

Hosted by Mark Jones, the ceremony also honoured leaders across multiple fields, including: Lushani Kodituwakku for Leadership, Professor Prasanna Sooriakumaran for Healthcare, Deshabandu Lynn Stanier MBE for Service to British Sri Lankan Community and Mantrulaady Thushaarah for Local Sports Community.

Dushyantha Silva was awarded for contribution to Wildlife and Local Champion of the Year was received by Dr Menaca Pothalingam. Special guests included Nimal Senadheera, The Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Dingemans, and Steve Phillips, Chair of the Board at Regent Global, who spoke of the enduring bond between Britain and Sri Lanka.

BRISLA Chair, Dr Zimar Sivardeen, emphasised the vital contributions of British Sri Lankans across business, healthcare, culture, and public service. Now in its eleventh year, BRISLA continues to uphold its mission of “Global Unity in Diversity,” honouring those who inspire progress and cross-cultural understanding.
