White & Givan is seeking professional contemporary dancers with a strong classical technique and an established contemporary practice to take part in the development of Dancers Connected. Funded by Creative Scotland, Dancers Connected is a new place-based employment initiative for freelance contemporary dancers that seeks to create the support and infrastructure needed to sustain long-term performing careers by adapting key elements of a full-time company environment to a freelance context. This research and development period in Aberdeen will test a place-based training model. As part of this process, we are exploring how access to training resources, local infrastructure and community support influence a dancer’s ability to maintain performance readiness, train regularly and access paid professional performance opportunities. Applicants must therefore be based in the Aberdeen area.
They are looking for dancers who:
Have professional contemporary dance training (or equivalent professional experience).
Have a strong classical technique alongside an established contemporary practice.
Have at least two years’ professional performance experience.
Are committed to working collaboratively and contributing to the development and evaluation of the Dancers Connected model through regular reflection and feedback.
Selected dancers will:
Participate in daily company-style contemporary technique classes focused on maintaining performance readiness.
Build a structured self-led training practice supported by studio access, peer support, professional guidance and clear goals.
Engage in reflective practice and regular review of their technical, physical and artistic development.
Contribute their experience and feedback to help evaluate and refine the Dancers Connected model.
You must be available between 26 September – 23 October. Please note a typical week runs Sat–Wed (approx. 40 hours). The fee is £631 per week for the four-week development and evaluation period. Please note that this programme is designed specifically to test a place-based model of dancer training. Participants will work from their existing base in Aberdeen; travel, accommodation and subsistence are therefore not provided.
