Job Description:
About the project
Award-winning choreographer Lisa Simpson is looking for two experienced and creative dance artists to join her new work, Being Human. We welcome applications from dancers working in contemporary, classical and other movement practices, including (but not limited to) breaking, Afro-diasporic dance forms, traditional dance styles, and interdisciplinary movement practices. Being Human is a deeply personal exploration of Lisa's lived experience as a non-verbal artist with quadriplegic cerebral palsy. The work explores ideas of safety, connection and what it means to be human, inviting audiences to reflect on their own everyday experiences of relationships and belonging. We are particularly interested in hearing from artists who identify as disabled, neurodivergent and/or who have personal experience of navigating barriers. However, we welcome applications from anyone who feels a strong connection to the themes of the work.
How we work
Lisa directs and creates choreography using The Simpson Board, a visual choreography tool. She works alongside a translator who is essentially Lisa's voice and translates movement ideas and creative conversations. Dance artists are invited to interpret and embody Lisa's movement ideas creatively, bringing their own artistry and lived experience into the process. This collaborative way of working celebrates individuality, creativity and different ways of communicating.
