U.Dance 2018 Makes the News!
This weekend the U.Dance festival took place in the UK’s eastern region for the very first time. It was hosted by DanceEast at its impressive home Jerwood DanceHouse, Ipswich, Suffolk. 2018 was the 10th year for U.Dance and the festival hit the headlines as a film crew from ITN Anglia attended and broadcast a news feature about this year’s event on the regional evening news. Over 290 entrants applied to take part in U.Dance 2018 – an annual celebration of youth dance nationwide – the festival is a culmination of 20 regional heats that took place all over the country. The weekend-long event was an exciting opportunity for youth dance groups to perform on-stage, hone their skills in professional dance workshops, and meet and work with other young dancers from across the country A selection of twelve dance groups took to the stage to perform throughout the festival showcasing a unique collection of excellent youth dance work and emerging young talent. This year, the performances at the festival were live-streamed to give more people the opportunity to watch the groups – resulting in over 1000 people tuning in to view the action. U.Dance continues to go from strength to strength. Over the last 10 years the annual programme has inspired many young people and their group leaders/teachers to raise their ambitions in and through dance. This decade of championing youth dance has seen over 1200 groups register with the programme, given the opportunity for over 178 thousand young dancers to perform, and has been enjoyed by an audience of over 4.4 million people. Next year the U.Dance Festival is planned to take place in London with another action-packed weekend of workshops and performance opportunities.
The event was delivered in partnership with the English Folk Dance and Song Society (working with Folk Dance Remixed).
