Rubicon Dance

Rubicon Dance is a community dance charity funded by the Arts Council of Wales and offers an extensive open access programme in the community and education in Wales with a legacy of over 40 years.  In addition, it has a legacy of over 30 years in providing dance pathway training with accreditation.  Rubicon Dance offer a bespoke training programming embedded in a professional working environment and graduates attain a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance Pathway RQF).  Graduates progress to study at London Studio Centre, Laban, Northern, The Place, Rambert, Urdang and more.  Work placements and apprenticeships are also available to graduates of Rubicon, who endeavour to forge careers in community practice and have attained a degree level qualification.

Rubicon dance offer a range of projects to students each year, including the following which are on offer in summer 2019:

‘Songs of Light and Darkness’ – a summer collaborative song and dance academy culminating in premiere performances at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama on Monday 15th July 2019, 5pm and 8pm.  Both The Aloud Charity and Rubicon Dance are embarking on this new exciting expressive partnership which will bring unique creative opportunities to students.

Outlook 2019 Rubicon Dance has commissioned Marcus Jarrell-Willis an emerging choreographer based in Wales who has performed with the internationally renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.  He is currently creating a unique and original work entitled ‘Colloquy’ as part of Rubicon’s Outlook 2019 tour.  This piece will be presented as part of a week of workshop/ performance lecture demonstrations during summer 2019, across communities and schools in South Wales. Outlook is inspiring new generations of young dancers and audiences and culminates in the premiere of ‘Colloquy’ as part of the ‘Songs of Light and Darkness’ performance on 15th July 2019.

U.Dance 2019 – Rubicon graduates are thrilled to be performing ‘Days’, a physical dance theatre piece at the QEH in London on Sunday 21st July 2019, as part of a national platform celebrating youth dance in Britain.

GCSE Dance Hub 2019 – Rubicon Dance is embarking on a new initiative to act as a hub for students in secondary education in Wales to study GCSE Dance.  This exciting development with commence in September 2019.
