Roots of Rumba

Award nominated dance company Element Arts are bringing Latin dance to the theatre with their shoe stopping  event Roots of Rumba


On 8 & 9 April, one of the UK’s leading Latin Dance Companies, Ella Mesma Company and Element Arts bring Roots of Rumba Latin Dance Theatre Festival to Richmix, London.

The first Latin Dance Theatre platform of its kind, Roots of Rumba is described as a festival showcasing the incredible talents, cultures and skills embedded within Latin culture.’ Comprising of two nights of shows, a full day of dance workshops and an after party with International acclaimed DJ Lubi.

Artistic Director Ella Mesma has curated the festival, which sold out last year and includes acts such as Cuban born Luanda Pau, Myriam Gadri of New York and Tierra Morena from Sweden and Ella Mesma Company.

Ella Mesma, Contemporary dancer and B-Girl but first and foremost, Latin dancer, speaking about the festival said ‘I have been dancing Salsa and Samba for over twelve years and so these are the dances that make the most sense to me. My goal is to share my passion for Latin dance styles and give Latin dance greater recognition in the theatre.’

Roots of Rumba is funded by Arts Council of England and have also raised a crowed funding campaign in order to make sure this event is the best it can be. The event will also be supported by Daniel Goldman and Casa International Festival.
