Dr. Natalie Walker on the psychology of injury
Dr. Natalie Walker – BPS Chartered Psychologist and Principal Lecturer, Department of Sport Therapy, University of Bedfordshire
This session aimed to provide dancers, teachers, choreographers and healthcare professionals with an opportunity to explore injury from a psychological and social perspective. It provided a deeper look into not only the recovery from injury, but also the psychological factors that may precede injury (such as life and work stress) and how dancers can develop effective and positive strategies for prevention, rehabilitation and full recovery. Social support for injured dancers and tools to help dancers to develop resilience and coping skills was also be discussed.
