U.Dance on Screen
U.Dance on Screen runs alongside the annual youth dance festival, whilst focusing on three core values:
- To celebrate youth dance on screen
- To expand opportunities to showcase youth dance beyond staged performances – into digital spaces
- To encourage wider participation in dance from filmmakers, directors and producers
Each year we put out a call for submissions of dance films either by young filmmakers, or containing young dancers. An independent panel of film/dance professionals then chooses a selection to be part of the annual youth dance festival.
This year, selected U.Dance on Screen films will be showcased online during U.Dance Digital 2020, part of a varied programme of digital dance events that make up the national youth dance festival. The films will be curated by dance on screen expert Sima Gonsai, with input from Mark Reid, Head of Education at BFI Southbank.
Applications for 2020 are now closed.
“Capturing dance on film is not an easy task. The diverse films selected for U.Dance on Screen show a real commitment from some talented young filmmakers, showcasing the grace, storytelling power and unique visual impact of dance.”
Mark Reid, Head of Education, BFI Southbank.
