Diasporic Dance: Legacies of Imagination

Re:generations 2016 Conference

Taking place in Birmingham for the first time, the three-day event was developed with many partners including One Dance UK, ACE Dance and Music, IRIE! dance theatre, De Montfort University, dance Immersion, mac Birmingham and independent consultants Christy Adair and Judith Palmer.

The 2016 conference focused on heritage, legacies, histories, geographies, places and spaces of dance of the African Diaspora. Our international keynote speakers included Dr Anita Gonzalez from the USA, Peter Badejo OBE form Nigeria and Dr Hilary Carty from the UK.

We were pleased to welcome our UK-based and a record number of international contributors including speakers, artists, practitioners and delegates. Special thanks go to the Government of Québec, the Canadian High Commission and Canada Council for supporting our large Canadian cohort.
