The Cre8ing Change programme was a programme led by Youth Dance England working with Street Factory that aimed to improve the lives of young men not in education, employment or training through participation in dance.
We worked with Plymouth-based Street Factory to deliver the programme, which offered eight young men the chance to gain confidence, fitness, discipline and skills through taking part in a dance and martial arts programme.
The young men worked with Toby Gorniak, a nationally respected hip hop artist and qualified youth worker on an intensive six month programme of dance and martial arts training followed by individual mentoring. It was the aim that the young men would have entered training or employment by the end of the project.
The programme has achieved positive results, as half the participants have enrolled in college courses or found employment. Read more about the programme in the Plymouth Herald.
This project was supported by the Rayne Foundation, D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust, Awards For All, Cosmopolitan Hotel, Nandos and City Bus (Plymouth).
