The Point, Eastleigh has partnered with Extraordinary Bodies to offer young people aged 16-30 inclusive dance training.

Moving Forward: 3 Day Masterclass Training is free and runs Wednesday 4 to Friday 6 April at the Eastleigh arts hub.

The opportunity, created by Extraordinary Bodies in association with The Point’s Dance Development Team, comprises of a three-day inclusive training masterclass culminating in an open performance sharing on the final day. Participants will work across theatre, aerial circus and dance to develop a new working practice which unites performers with physical and sensory impairments, learning disabilities and non-disabled people.

Moving Forward has been developed to give young people the opportunity to explore their creativity through the arts, and celebrates emerging talent and collaboration. The course will be led by professional artists from Extraordinary bodies; the UK’s first integrated circus company.

Extraordinary Bodies is a unique partnership between Cirque Bijou and Diverse City, an award-winning organisation committed to diversity and equality in the arts. Together they make up the UK’s leading professional integrated circus company making work for, with and about communities, representing the diverse makeup of society.

The Point is dedicated to raising awareness of best practice in inclusive arts, annually connecting local young people with opportunities in dance, theatre and circus.

Creative Programme Producer (Dance) Vicki Hargreaves said:

“The Point is dedicated to best practise and offering local artists and audiences the most inclusive experiences. We are extremely excited to be teaming up with Diverse City and Extraordinary Bodies to offer such fantastic training for local artists and also local young people.”

As part of Moving Forward, The Point and Extraordinary Bodies also present an Inclusive Rehearsal Room for performers, directors, teachers and facilitators on Saturday 7 April. The day is designed to give participants the tools needed to widen access and participations for disabled and diverse people equally; something both organisations are passionate about. Tickets are £35 and can be booked through Diverse City’s website.
