The Point hosts European Aerial Dance Festival this August
The Point, Eastleigh is hosting the 8th annual European Aerial Dance Festival this August, 8th – 19th, in partnership with Gravity & Levity.
The Eastleigh arts venue, which has built a reputation for nurturing and housing companies of all disciplines, will open its doors to EADF participants from around the globe this summer as The Point plays host for a second year. The cultural hub was selected to house the acclaimed festival for its unique and unrivalled facilities which includes a double-height Creation Space rigged for the aerial arts alongside a Studio Theatre and Main Auditorium.
“We are extremely excited to be hosting the European Aerial Dance Festival for the second year running. We have developed a fantastic relationship with Gravity and Levity and cannot wait to see what the festival has in store this year and in the years to come. People from across the world are travelling to The Point to share, exchange and learn and we are very proud to be the cultural hub at which this training takes place.” – Vicki Hargreaves, Dance Development Manager at The Point
The European Aerial Dance Festival welcomes aerialists of all levels to come together and celebrate the discipline while learning new and exciting skills at workshops led by industry professionals. Classes on offer include aerial yoga, massage, flexibility training, trapeze and corde lisse, plus more. Some courses have already sold-out, with participants coming from across the UK and Europe to take part in the renowned arts event. EADF also includes performance opportunities and audiences will be invited to watch an Open Space of what participants have learned during their course at the end of the two-week festival. At the sharing, which will be hosted at The Point, the course tutors will also showcase their world-class skills at a free and informal gathering open to all.
The Point is a centre for dance excellence and a bustling cultural hub that encourages the development of solo artists and companies seeking to make work. The venue has a continuing relationship with Gravity & Levity, a world-renowned company which has been producing and touring mesmeric aerial theatre works since its inception in 2003. The Point is looking towards developing a deeper relationship with the company in 2018 as their partnership continues with EADF.
Alongside the key development and training of burgeoning artists and skilled professionals, the European Aerial Dance Festival will see a positive economic impact on the Borough of Eastleigh with participants staying locally and utilising restaurants, coffee shops and bars and restaurants while they undertake their course. This year the University of Winchester also comes on-board for the two-week festival, inviting participants to stay in 40 available rooms. The Point collaborates with local businesses regularly, ensuring the Town benefits from its yearly highlights such as EADF, Eastleigh Unwrapped and Eastleigh Film Festival.
Aerialists of all levels aged 18 and above are invited to EADF 2017; tickets can be booked at www.eadf.co.uk or on 023 8065 2333.
