One Dance UK and BBC Arts announce funding opportunities and the return of Dance Passion for 2022

29 Apr 2021

One Dance UK and BBC Arts are pleased to announce that Dance Passion will return early in 2022 as part of the BBCs Dance Season, shining a light on the UK’s world-class dance sector in all its forms.

Dance Passion’s mission is to celebrate the UK dance sector – its unique creativity, pool of world-class talents, and innovative approach hosted on a variety of BBC platforms such as BBC iPlayer.

As part of this celebration, BBC Arts and One Dance UK have announced an open call, and are inviting dance companies, independent artists, choreographers, and associated technical partners to apply for funding to create five short-form films and five interactive projects which will delight existing dance lovers and bring new audiences to the art form.

One Dance UK Chief Executive Andrew Hurst MBE comments:

We are delighted to be partnering with BBC Arts, BBC Connected Studio and Arts Council England to bring Dance Passion 2022 to life. This exciting national celebration of dance will showcase the cutting-edge creativity, artistry, and talent that makes the dance sector so vibrant and essential. Following the success of Dance Passion 2019,  we look forward to working with our partners to shine a light on even more of the incredible talent that comprises the dance sector today.

BBC Commissioning Executive, Digital and Festivals, Stephen James-Yeoman adds:

After the most difficult year for arts organisations and performers alike, it is thrilling to announce the return of the Dance Season to the BBC, particularly with initiatives that highlight our ongoing commitment to nurturing young talents and attracting creative ideas from every corner of the dance scene in the UK. We hope that BBC Young Dancer and the BBC Arts collaboration with One Dance UK for Dance Passion will provide inspiration and excitement for all audiences watching the shows at home.

The opportunities for funding are open to dance companies, independent artists, dancers and choreographers based in the UK from both the professional and non-professional sectors, along with those based in dance education and dance medicine/science.

Dance Passion is a collaboration between BBC Arts and One Dance UK and is supported by funding from Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants programme. Applications for the Open Call are opening soon, and full details on how to apply can be found here.
