Networking Round-Tables

We want everyone and especially our members, to make the most of the opportunity the conference gives us for professional networking and re-connecting with peers from all over the UK.

We have created some space during our lunch and networking breaks for facilitated informal round-table networking where delegates can discuss and identify the needs of dance and dance professionals, the latest developments and priorities for future work – join us for a chat!

Friday 23 November, 14.00 – 14.50

 Arts Council Ten Year Strategy
Facilitated by Cate Canniffe

This is an informal opportunity for the independent sector to hear about the developing 10 year strategy for Arts Council England, covering the years from 2020 to 2030.  There will be a chance to discuss the proposed outcomes with Cate Canniffe, Director of Dance, and to feed into the thinking.  It’s worth having a look at the documents on the website in advance of attending.

Dance Science and Research
Facilitated by Helen Laws

Network aims to connect those working in, or with an active interest in, dance science in order to benefit from the sharing of news, the latest research, knowledge and expertise. In the group, we expect discussion to focus on research methodologies and questions, the application of dance/ sports science in different dance contexts, sharing of research ideas and findings, calls for abstracts or publication, collaborative research projects and more.

A chance for One Dance UK organisational members and dance managers to network in a welcoming and relaxed environment. Mental health and dancers

This special networking meeting will focus on the research, clinical services, and education support developments in dancers’ mental health and psychological skills for performance.

Dance Press and Marketing Professionals
Facilitated by Susi Pink

A chance for Dance Press, PR and Marketing professionals to get together and discuss shared issues, and challenges. For example: declining arts coverage and how we’re trying to overcome it, how do we encourage emerging dance writers and photographers, establishing relationships with members of the press etc. There’s also great potential to explore opportunities to work together as organisations with a view to raising the visibility and profile of dance.

Dancers’ Health Educators

This network aims to connect those working in, or with an active interest in education in dancers’ health and/or dance medicine and science. This could be in HE, FE, vocational training, primary or secondary school, private dance studios, and community workshops, or any other educational setting. In it we expect discussion to focus on educational resources, teaching methods, educational challenges, or dance medicine and science in the curriculum.

Dance Healthcare Teams and Practitioners

For all healthcare practitioners working with dancers in a range of contexts, and particularly those in One Dance UK’s member organisations who are responsible for dancer and/or student healthcare. This round-table aims to connect those working within the specific healthcare context of dance companies and/or schools with peers in order to benefit from the sharing of news, research, knowledge and expertise. In this group we expect discussion to focus on clinical care for dancers and interdisciplinary collaboration in applied dance settings, sharing best practice.

Participants will have opportunity to discuss the latest news, issues and concerns around the place of dance in education as well as share ideas and success stories. One Dance UK staff will be on hand to discuss how the organisation can provide support and advice.
