Launch 2018: Scotland Conference Kick-Starts Dance Careers
One Dance UK’s day-long conference for dance students and recent graduates comes to Dance Base in Edinburgh this March, in partnership with YDance (Scottish Youth Dance).
Launch 2018 offers an unmissable platform through which dance students and graduates can gain insight into the many pathways a career in dance might take.
Educating dancers since 2002, Launch is full of useful sessions covering a wide range of topics. The day provides seminars and hands-on practical advice from both emerging and established dance professionals, all of whom boast impressive careers both as dancers and in other diverse roles the dance profession offers.
Students and graduates will benefit from informed knowledge of dance industry navigation, perhaps even discovering new pathways. After enjoying a day of unique opportunities for both professional development and networking, they will leave feeling confident of their next steps.
Programmed sessions* include:
– Finance for Dancers
– Workshops: How to Work as a Choreographer, Teacher or Performer
– What to Expect after Graduating
Speakers include Zoe Thomson, Director of CarpeDiemDance; Helen Laws, One Dance UK’s Head of Industry and Artist Support/National Institute for Dance Medicine and Science; Ian West, Dancer, Creative Choreographer and Movement Director; and Carolyn Lappin, Executive Director of YDance.
“YDance (Scottish Youth Dance) is delighted to be working with One Dance UK to bring Launch back to Scotland in 2018. The day will be immensely useful for young dancers in Scotland, who will have access to a host of industry professionals offering information and advice on the business of being a dance professional.”
Launch is set to inspire and empower a new generation of dancers and dance practitioners to understand better the nature of the UK dance sector and how to participate fully within it.
Previous attendee Emily Eason, from Northern School of Contemporary Dance, adds:
“The day has provided me with a lot of information; I feel more prepared and supported as an artist. It has turned some of my fears of graduating into excitement!”
