Job Description

Creative Academy is seeking an experienced choreographer for the commission of their piece ‘Level Up’.

Role and Requirements

Once entrusted in this role we require you to collaborate with our company to create a 20 minute piece of choreography. This will involve:

  • Proposing creative tasks and original choreographic phrases regularly to develop the progression of our piece.
  • Provide the company with a clear vision and direction for our piece in collaboration with our stimulus.
  • We are looking for a choreographer with a professional outlook and reliable work ethic which matches the company. This is an artistic assessment piece and our company is looking for a choreographer that brings out the strengths within our team.
  • A preferable requirement for this role is choreographic experience within both the commercial and contemporary sectors as we want our piece to be in a contemporary commercial fusion style.
  • For employment purposes we require you to have acquired an Undergraduate Degree, public liability insurance, a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS check) and a unique tax reference number.

Our vision follows a concept of levelling up through a video game, taking inspiration specifically from classic 80s games such as Street Fighter, Super Mario Bros, Mortal Combat and Pacman. After discussions within the company we recognise 80s inspired music as a starting point, this is preferred but not essential.

Application Process

In order to apply we require you to send us your choreography showreel and Curriculum Vitae with relevant experience that would demonstrate your suitability for the role. In addition to this, we need a brief introduction to how you envision our piece – 300 words maximum.

Selection Process

If we feel that you share a similar vision for our piece, we will invite you into Creative Academy for an audition and interview. As part of the audition we require you to prepare a fifteen-minute technique class and 4×8 minimum of repertoire using our given stimulus to teach to the class. Following this you will be taken for an informal interview with cast members.
