The LEAF partnership presents free weekly creative sessions in Richmond Hill for adults aged 55+ as part of ‘Young At Arts’.

Ten weeks in Richmond Hill is an opportunity for older adults aged 55+, to meet and make new friends, share stories and try out some artistic activity with professional artists from Yorkshire Dance, Opera North and West Yorkshire Playhouse. All the sessions are free with refreshments provided and since Ten Weeks in Richmond Hill is run as drop-in sessions, you can come to as many or as few as you want to.

Yorkshire Dance will lead the first three sessions of gentle movement-play to stimulate mind and body. You don’t have to be a dancer, these sessions are for anybody.

Sing on with Opera North in a relaxed and friendly environment for the following three weeks and discover your storytelling talent with West Yorkshire Playhouse in the final sessions.

A participant who attended the Young at Arts Ten weeks in Rothwell last year said “Each session has left me feeling energised, happy, useful, and with a feeling of well being. The sessions bring you out of yourself and are a great opportunity to connect with other people from the community.”

Young at Arts is a 2-year project commissioned by Leeds Older People’s Forum and delivered by Leeds Education Arts Forum (LEAF), a partnership of Leeds Grand Theatre & City Varieties, Northern Ballet, Opera North, Phoenix Dance Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse & Yorkshire Dance.

Fulfilling Lives: Ageing Better is a new programme that aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness amongst older people (50+). Leeds is one of the 15 Ageing Better areas, selected from an original 100. The project has received funding of approximately £6m and will reach at least 15,000 older people in the city.
