What motivates you to pursue a career in choreography?
Finding innovative ways to share stories and emotions with audiences, is an ever lasting thrill. Dance has an unique way to reach souls across borders, making us relate to one another beyond differences.
Can you share with us some highlights of your choreographic career and/or your current engagements?
Career highlights have been to get in contact early on with new technologies. Being engaged with their use and development have been utterly challenging at times as well as fascinating. The intricacy and technicality involved have influenced my choreographic voice today.
How has your choreographic process and work developed over time?
I have always been captivated by utilising dance to lead other medium. First with live music, then film, to focus today on technologies such as autonomous drones and interactive visuals. The creative process required a symbiotic development where all elements were being written together, which throughout the years pushed me to create a precise method allowing the coordination of all artistic parts at the same time.
What do you think are some of the main challenges choreographers are faced with today?
Today’s challenges are in the creation of an unique vision while developing an audience. The rise of social media has rendered the audience reach more accessible and its engagement more direct. However platforms are overcrowded, it is increasingly more difficult to emerge from the noise. The development artistic can also be influenced and distracted by the overwhelming volume of content already present.
What advice would you give to emerging choreographers?
To gain as much experience as possible. Working with established choreographers and on their own, emerging choreographers will be exposed to the reality of the work and its artistry.
What kind of work are you currently interested in pursuing?
Currently developing shows echoing our relationship with digital spaces, already present in every day life. The integration of technologies invite the creation of immersive shows where audiences experience and influence performances, unique to individual stories, all allying the grandiose with the intimate.
