This will be a masterclass for dancers of any ability or genre to find out how to keep themselves happy and healthy dancers by reducing tension in their bodies in dance, improving flexibility and range of motion without stressing the body out with the aim to reduce injury, and burnout! A must for any dancer who is looking to improve their movement and become more efficient in dance! We will travel up and down the body looking at areas where there may be tension that block movement and can cause discomfort and work out what we can do to feel better, happier and healthier dancers. Learn how to develop softer pliés, more expressive and comfortable arms, release tension from the lower back and smooth out those hips!

Dance Passport: Global Dance Challenge with Dance Dispatches

Have your travel plans been cancelled or postponed? Dance Dispatches is hosting a multi-stage dance challenge that takes participants on a virtual global journey. Join the Dance Passport challenge to learn six different dances, each from a different country on a different continent. When you upload a video of your dance (publicly or privately), you’ll earn stamps and dates on your digital dance passport pages. The varied lessons are suitable for beginners: line dance, samba, Highland fling, coupe descale, bhangra and Tahitian dance. This is an out-of-armchair travel experience that will get you moving and learning about different cultures. It can also lift your spirits and connect you with other dancers during lockdown. Russell Maliphant Dance Company will be hosting online classes for a limited period of time during November and December. These classes will be led by Russell or dancers from the company - please see their details below.
Classes are focused on increasing body awareness, articulation and strength whilst exploring choices in movement and dynamics within a playful practice. Drawing on anatomical information as a resource for movement and improvisation, class will encourage connection, balance and listening to the body in movement.
The classes are suitable for professionals, dancers in training and those with a few years physical training or movement experience.
Each daily class will last for 75 minutes from 10:45 – 12:00 (BST)
Participants must be aged 18 or over.

Booking Up
Each week we will release tickets for Monday - Friday, of that week, for you to register for class.
Please individually register so that we have a clear idea of numbers attending the class each day to ensure there is - virtual - space for you all.
On Friday at 12 noon we will release tickets for you to book for the following week. Please see our programme of classes below.
You can book and pay per class, or save money by booking a week of classes in advance.

Morning class provides a professional learning environment to support mindful curiosity and physical intelligence in movement research. Leading UK-based and international artists draw from a unique amalgamation of their experiences in dance and other body-mind practices. With a focus on movement explorations that attend to what movement feels like, rather than imitating an ideal form, classes are accessible to all. The classes embody an ethos of questioning, extending notions of what dance can be and for whom. Morning Classes are intended for experienced movement practitioners open to people of all physicalities; if you would like to discuss any access requirements with ID in advance, please get in touch. The autumn programme of classes will be delivered online over Zoom with the possibility of additional resources available to engage with in your own time and space. Moving Upwards is multidisciplinary workshop designed and hosted by Contemporary Performance Masters Graduate Jamie Hurley. The workshop has been designed to explore the connection between mind and body healing, through exercises and techniques in Meditation, Yoga, Dance, Topic Discussion, Affirmations and much more. These workshops are aimed at helping young creatives ground themselves, release tension, talk about aspirations, and to elevate their confidence to a new level and to practice exercises in intentional dance.
