DanceXchange launches new, free online dance classes for children and families

DanceXchange is offering a new programme of FREE online dance classes for young people and their families starting Thursday 23 April and running for 4 weeks. Fun, energetic and for all abilities, the children’s classes launch with Bhangra and over the 4 weeks include Contemporary, Breakin and Musical Theatre dance styles.

These new classes will be 30 minutes long, streamed live from 4pm each Thursday on DanceXchange’s Facebook and are aimed at children up to 11 years, along with their whole family.

The new programme is confirmed as:

THURSDAY 23 April / 4pmBhangra with Sohan Kailey
Learn traditional and  folk Bhangra dance movements fused with Sohan’s own contemporary flavour accompanied by a vibrant Bhangra soundtrack.

THURSDAY  30 April / 4pmContemporary with Chris Radford
An explosive, joyful contemporary experience with Afro-fusion influences. Sure to make you smile and sweat!

THURSDAY 7 May / 4pmBreakin with Jamaal O’Driscoll
Try a variety of movement and steps, from the hip hop style of Breakin. Sequence together foundational steps involving Toprock, Go-Downs, Footwork patterns, and finish off with a Freeze to tell a story.

THURSDAY  13 May / 4pm  – Musical Theatre with Katie Row
A high energy session full of fun with a focus on the smash hit musical Matilda.

DanceXchange is also delighted to announce that the hugely popular DXtra Daily online adult classes, led by DanceXchange’s regular class tutors, have been extended through until 8 May. With some classes reaching almost 750 attendees, DXtra Daily online is proving the perfect way for people to feel connected through the UK quarantine as well as supporting people’s well-being and fitness. These classes will continue to be streamed via Instagram Live.

Alex Henwood, Head of Learning and Participation at DanceXchange said: “We are really excited to be adding four new children’s classes to our DXtra Daily online class timetable, a great opportunity for families to come together and have fun! Our online programme now offers 6 FREE classes a week for all ages and abilities. We believe dance is one of the best ways to keep active, have fun and be part of an amazing community – come join us!”

The adult programme is currently:

MONDAY / Ballet/ 6.30pm / Led by Sebastian Loe
An introduction to the basics of classical ballet, the concepts of core stability, turn-out, flexibility, posture and placement.

TUESDAY / Salsa / 6.30pm / Led by Helen Calcutt
An authentic Cuban-salsa dance class that combines strong dance technique with all the zest of Cuban rhythms and styling, in a fun and energetic way.

WEDNESDAY / Commercial / 6.30pm / Led by Michael Brandon
Personalised choreography that is full of flare, strong dynamics and attitude. For beginners who want to learn, progress, have fun and be pushed.

THURSDAY / Vogue / 8pm / Led by Jason Andrew Guest (In partnership with Unmuted & Shout)
Learn to vogue and bring it to the runway. Learn the fundamentals of the vogue and the ballroom culture it comes from. Strike a pose and join DX for an introduction to voguing.

FRIDAY / Contemporary / 6.30pm / Led by Laura Vanhulle
Explore the basics of contemporary dance by improving coordination, strength, body alignment and flexibility. A fun class learning the basics, full of positive energy, focus, and fun!

Adult classes will run on Instagram Live and be available for 24 hours after the class for participants to enjoy in their own time.
