Taira Foo is a professional choreographer, she is also founder and artistic director of HINGED Dance Co who recently appeared in Snow Patrols 'Don't Give in'

Hinged is a story-based company bringing the narrative ballet art-form into the 21st century. Taira is known for her rapid-fire, high-energy choreography, delivering powerful emotional performances. Her recent work is reviewed as "Gripping", "Intensely moving", "One million miles an hour stuff", "Imaginative and brilliant to watch". Her work draws on strong contemporary and street-dance influences to create her own trademark style.

Credits include ‘Prisoner 466 funded by The Arts Council and shown at ‘The House Of Lords’, short film 'Carly's exit' which premiered at The San Francisco Dance Film Festival and the New York ‘Dance for camera’ Festival. Her company also appeared in Snow Patrol’s ‘Don’t Give in’ 2018 with other performances in and around the UK.

Taira has also choreographed 10 professional pantomimes in and around the UK. She has also choreographed numerous theatre productions, music videos & corporate events.

Taira worked as a professional dancer for over 10 years, performing in the original cast of We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre. She also performed in Chicago, Grease, Fame, The Snowman, Royal Variety show, Queens Jubilee, Party in the Park and Michael Parkinson, working with some of the best choreographers such as Arlene Philips, Robert North, Janet Smith, Sheron Wray, Mykal Rand and Mitch Sebastian.

Taira has also worked with various contemporary dance companies including ‘Janet Smith Dance Co.' and Jazzxchange music & Dance Co, with performances at The Royal Opera House & riverside studios. During her time with these companies Taira was also creating choreography within the works.

'SICK’ was performed at The Place February 2020. Having recently received funding from the Arts council England to develop the piece, the project is ongoing. The work is narrative driven and follows one man’s struggle against depression.Told through contemporary & street dance influences with a slick use of props the new work addresses the torment of mental ill health.

‘Prisoner 466’
Over the summer 2014 Hinged Dance Co with support from Arts Council England brought together professional dancers, musicians and theatre practitioners together with new talent from the OC London community in Kings Cross, to create Prisoner 466 a new contemporary dance work about Mandela's 27 year imprisonment and the international anti-apartheid campaign his imprisonment inspired.
