A Call to Arms – ImagineNation Launch
Celebrities, politicians, young people and the great and the good from the arts education sector gathered at The House of Commons on 24 January, to witness the launch of ImagineNation.
Described by Sally Bacon, founder of the Cultural Learning Alliance, as “A love letter to arts and cultural education;” it sets out how the arts help children’s social, economic, personal and educational development; bolstered by ten key research findings.
Claire, Amy and Jo were at the launch, along with five of One Dance UK Dance Ambassadors: Beth, Harry, Jess, Theia and Miriam.
Speeches by Matt Hancock MP, Ed Vaizey MP, Caroline Dinenage MP, Darcy Bussell CBE, poet and teacher Caleb Femi, and actress Fiona Shaw CBE, all outlined their passion and commitment to arts education.
Now the work continues, as Claire Somerville our Head of Children and Young People’s Dance says “ImagineNation is a vital resource for the campaign to re-focus the curriculum, so that it is broad and balanced, without the hierarchy imposed by attainment measures like the EBacc. We encourage everyone to read it and share it with the teachers, head teachers and politicians. It’s compelling and persuasive, but will only help if it’s put into the right hands, so go forth and share your ImagineNation.”
