Choreographer Becky Namgauds will be taking her outdoor work, Rodadoras, on tour within the UK and the Netherlands this summer.

After a successful sharing of her dance piece Rodadoras at East Wall Warm Up 2016, produced by Hofesh Shechter Company and East London Dance, Becky Namgauds has developed the work for her summer tour. The piece involves Namagauds’ unique blend of dance and capoeira movement styles and sits between dance, installation and performance art.

Rodadoras responds to femicide and eco-feminism, citing specific cases such as Los Feminicidios, where women’s bodies were found in rivers and wastelands. Performed in a bed of soil, the performers are morphed into otherworldly creatures, at one with their outdoor surroundings. Through the work, Namgauds connects to the global idea of eco-feminisim.

‘I am motivated to create empowering feminist work’ says Namgauds. Rodadoras responds to topical issues surrounding gender violence and brings together the Earth and female form through surreal images. This performance involves three female performers; Sabrina Gargano, Eleonore Cabrera, Bethany Edwards, Neapolitan inspired original folk music composed by Domenico Angarano and is produced by Amy Sheppard.‘Rodadoras celebrates women’s folk stories whilst acknowledging gender violence. It’s a fantasy in which three creatures come back to life, primal, feral, vulnerable but strong!’ Becky Namgauds.

The outdoor dance piece will be toured to Hidden Door Festival, Edinburgh, Birmingham International Dance Festival, Greenwich & Docklands International Festival, London and will then travel to Amersfoort in the Netherlands to be shown at SPOFFIN, Street Arts Festival. This project is supported by the DanceXchange Choreography Award Spring 2018, ACE funding and Seed Funding Commission from Offsite partners; Appetite Stoke, Birmingham Hippodrome, Deda Derby and Derby Feste, as well as support from East London Dance and Hofesh Shechter.
