A message to our members and friends

21 Mar 2020

Dear friends,

I wanted to reassure you that in these strange and difficult times we are absolutely committed to the dance sector as a whole and continue to work to support you. From the very practical, like ensuring that our First Step insurance covers our members to teach virtual classes online, to the very urgent issues faced by freelancers who have had all their work cancelled for weeks or even months ahead. We are still very much open and in almost constant contact with the government and officials to ensure they are aware of the impacts on all of us, and so that we can update you on anything specifically relevant to our sector.

These are challenging and worrying times for us all, and with theatres closed and schools closing soon many of us will be feeling lost, alone and itching to move! The dance community has a lot to offer in response and we will be doing our bit to keep you all connected and highlight the many innovative and creative responses which are already appearing from within our ranks.

We will continue to share as much inspiring and informative content as we can through our website and social media and now might be a good time to have a read of past issues of both One and Hotfoot magazines and to check out the wide range of resources and news articles available in both the public and members areas on the site.

In line with UK Government advice, almost all of us are working from home, with the office still open and accessible if and when we need it. Despite the tricky circumstances, we are still tirelessly working to support you and the sector as a whole.

You can find links to all of the latest guidance here, and can find contact details for the entire team and direct lines for different areas of enquiry  here.

Whilst we may not be able to meet with our members in person over the coming weeks, we are using a variety of different technologies to stay in touch and would be happy to meet with you virtually, talk on the phone, or communicate over email or through social media.

As always, we are here to serve you and are working hard to champion and represent the needs of the dance sector, in all ways possible except face-to-face. Please do get in touch with me personally or any of the team if there is something you want to discuss or share with us.

I have always firmly believed that dance changes lives and has the power to bring us together. This is something we have long believed is a unique and incredibly valuable strength of our sector as we move into a post-Brexit world, and now more than ever we have the opportunity to use that power to reach out and brighten people’s lives in these dark times.

Today we are sharing an exclusive early release of a wonderful new dance film (see link below), and there will be more treats coming over the next days and weeks to remind us all how proud we should be of the importance and power of dance in people’s lives.

Warmest wishes to you and your families from the entire team at One Dance UK,

Andrew Hurst
Chief Executive of One Dance UK
