2Faced Dance Company announces the appointment of Ian Abbott as its new Executive Director

13 Jun 2018

Ian Abbott, who will start in the new role from June 2018, is an independent producer and writer who specialises in artist development, programming and building strategic partnerships across organisations in different industries.
Abbott’s role at 2Faced Dance will involve him working in collaboration and partnership with the company’s Artistic Director, Tamsin Fitzgerald, and Board of Directors, to lead the organisation strategically whilst maintaining an equal leadership role within 2Faced Dance Company.
2Faced Dance have been part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio since its inception in 2012. Abbott joins the company at the start of their new 4-year business plan.
Abbott will work alongside the company’s team to develop, articulate and implement the company’s long-term strategic objectives. He will continue to develop the company’s national and international touring profile, whilst overseeing the delivery of its business objectives, and ensure that 2Faced Dance thrives both artistically and financially now and in the future.
Chair of 2Faced Dance Company’s Board, Charlotte Brennan, has commented:
“We are delighted to have Ian join 2Faced Dance, bringing with him a wealth of skills, experience and connections.  This is a new role within the company and one that will focus on providing the building blocks to fulfil our vision to become a worldwide leader in the production of breath-taking, physical and inspirational dance.”
Talking of his new position with 2Faced Dance, Abbott has said:
“Having been inspired by Tamsin’s creation of The BENCH and 2Faced Dance’s ability to connect with audiences I’m looking forward to working with her, the team and the board to develop the profile and reputation of the company as it looks towards its 20th anniversary in 2019. The generosity of creating opportunities and sharing resources for other female choreographers to develop under the 2Faced Dance banner is unique amongst the full time dance companies in the UK; their international reputation has seen them working in India, USA and Europe in the last 18 months – and this is something which I hope to build on.”
Abbott and Fitzgerald have recently returned from an eleven-day visit to China, during which they visited multiple cities and met with over twenty venues, promoters and industry contacts.
2Faced Dance are currently touring two works;
Abbott has previously been a trustee, led and held senior management roles in a number of UK based cultural organisations including: Creative Dundee, Pavilion Dance South West, Citymoves Dance Agency and the Association of Dance of the African Diaspora. He has worked with Attakkalari India Biennale, Scottish Dance Theatre, Dance Hub Birmingham, Uchenna Dance, Casson and Friends, Marc Brew Company, Mamoru Iriguchi, Seeta Patel, Neon Dance and Sadhana Dance.
