The Point, Eastleigh has been awarded funding from Hampshire County Council’s Short Breaks for Disabled Children Grant towards its inclusive participation offering in the borough.

Hampshire County Council’s funding for Short Breaks – disability funding which supports access to the arts – has funded The Point £12,120 towards its work with disabled young people in Eastleigh Borough, with a focus on wellbeing. The venue offers weekly sessions in art, dance, drama and music, led by professionals and delivered in an accessible and relaxed environment.

With this new funding, the venue aims to develop their current offering by extending opportunities available for young people with disabilities. Integration with mainstream pupils is a core focus of the venue’s access work and local students are invited to volunteer at the sessions to promote integration across all art forms.

“We are thrilled to receive this funding to continue to offer as much as we can for young people in the borough to access high quality arts provision. Working with our team of professional practitioners, we offer a wide range of wellbeing sessions for everyone. We pride ourselves on developing supportive and inclusive environments for everyone to enjoy the arts and can’t wait for the year ahead.”

– Vicki Hargreaves, Creative Programme Producer (Dance) at The Point

The funding from Hampshire County Council will allow The Point to provide high quality arts experiences to an increased number of disabled children and their families in Eastleigh, creating a safe and creative environment. The venue will also continue to work closely with professional integrated dance company Stopgap, offering specialised workshops with company members. The Point’s inclusive offer currently includes dance, drama and visual art workshop Multi Arts, Movers and Shakers, a weekly dance class for adults with learning disabilities, plus more.

Hampshire County Council’s Short Breaks for Disabled Children programme was made to improve services for children with disabilities and additional needs, by offering positive out-of-school activities. To find out more visit the Hampshire County Council website.
