U.Dance 2018, the nation’s annual youth dance festival, will showcase the strength and talent of young dancers from across the country in the beautiful surroundings of Snape Maltings in Suffolk. Coming to the East of England for the first time, we are working with DanceEast to make this festival a unique experience inspired by the regions’ urban and rural landscapes. It will enable young dancers from both schools and youth dance groups to participate in classes, workshops, careers sessions and social activities during the three and half day residential.
Our short highlights film from U.Dance 2017, will give you a quick insight into the U.Dance Festival.
What should a dance group expect if they are selected to come to U.Dance 2018?
The festival runs over 3 and half days from 11th to 14th July. During that time, all participants and their group leaders will be provided with three-nights’ accommodation and all meals from the evening of 10th to lunchtime on 14th July.
All the dancers will participate in a workshop programme for two days across both the Jerwood Dance House in Ipswich and Snape Maltings. This will include careers advice and plenty of practical sessions exploring new styles and spaces. We also hope to provide some CPD for group leaders during the festival.
Each group will perform as part of the single U.Dance 2018 Showcase on the Snape Maltings Concert Hall stage.
Everyone will also get to participate in an evening social programme, including the opportunity to watch the full-length 2017/18 NYDC production.
All transport between venues will be provided.
How much does it cost?
We’re currently negotiating the accommodation cost, to get the best deal. So at present we expect the cost to be no more than £145 (incl VAT) per person. We will have an Access Fund which groups can apply to and more information about this will be made available at the regional events.
